Karl Rove Strikes Back: Like a Petulant Child

I have been too busy to write much in my own words over the past week. However, I heard this excellent chronology of the "Valerie Plame Affair" or "Karl Rove strikes back (like a petulant child)" yesterday on NPR. Please take the time to listen to this piece. It gives an excellent chronology about how the White House tried to make its case for war and its reactions to those who dared get in the way.

NPR Senior News Analyst Daniel Schorr says that the real issue in the Karl Rove controversy is not a leak, but a war, and how America was misled into that war.

I think Schorr was on Richard Nixon's enemies list. Wonder if Rove keeps one, too?

Probably. At another forum we were talking about who might be on it. These names came to mind.

Scott Ritter
Joe Wilson
Paul O'Neill
Richard Clarke

I figure Democrats should bring up "yellowcake" every time they talk about this. Make the baseline the fact that this all started when Wilson called bullshit on Bush's State of the Union Iraq/Niger/yellowcake lies. Once you remind the audience of that, the speaker can go ahead and address whatever new nonsense is being discussed.

When the Emperor struts around in his skivvies, eventually some kid is gonna utter an observant (if ill-advised) remark about it.

No one (except mebbe some naive youngster who doesn't know any better) wants to be the first kid on the chopping block to speak the obvious truth to power.

Our culture has a nasty habit of shooting the truthful messenger who is artless enough to say things in plain English, rather than dressing the story up in artful metaphors which the Powers That Be are too oblivious to decode.

Which reminds me, I need to go stand in line to get my copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Yeah, Rowling drops a few asides in to Half-Blood Prince about wrongful imprisonment and appearances just to keep morale high. Call me obnoxious (I heard that!) but I sense a connection to current events...
