I am taking down the masthead and willing to take suggestions for any pithy slogan to replace it.

This is a blog to chronicle life as a dissident in the "heartland", the northern tip of the bible belt, the capital city of the Mississippi of the North. Life in a red state leaves one blue

How about:

From hibernation to awareness. From what was to what will be.

how about "life in a mostly red state that occasionally comes to its senses and goes blue" :) Or wait, "life as an idealist in a state full of pedantic pragmatists". Heh. I love my home state. I never thought it was as jingoistic as its portrayed to be. I am slightly nauseated whenever I come home to see all the "In God We Trust" license plates though, knowing a lot of people bought them to be More Christian Than You. Oh, and I'm around! I've friended the journal (but you're a friend!) just because of some odd traffic I was getting. But I keep my eye on things. Oooh, and I think Oregon is going Merkley.

Welcome, Jimmy. I like it.

I agree LGG. Indiana has its weakpoints but it's not as bad it is often portrayed on television or the media. I think of Woody on Cheers "I am not a hoosier, but I play one on tv".

As for the plates, I had to force the clerk not to give me one of those plates the last time I went there. I really wouldn't mind but it was the whole idea of how they were pushed through.

Weird about the journal. I'll see if I can get the updates. I don't think I've seen anything on there from you in months. I haven't done a good job of keeping this place for a long time.

Go Merkley!

How about:

Finally shaking off the torpor to find ourselves standing in blue waves of corn.

I am going to use that for a while, Jim. I may use all suggestions eventually.
