Y'know, I hate to admit it, but, this is more than just a case of hyper-sensitive IU alums getting on his case. I think that the one thing fans hate more than losing is inconsistency. How can we do so well in losses against Duke and Connecticut, and then get blown away by Wisconsin?
You're right. Fire Mike Davis. Not because he's not Bob Knight. But just because he's not doing a good job. Let him finish the season, though.
Kevin, I am a Sycamore fan, but I have followed the hoosiers all of my life. I have an IU degree too, ok so it's from IU-Indpls law school, but I am a member of the Varsity Club :)
As for the Sycamores, they've struggled since they lost Moss, but they beat SIU on the road. Not bad. Hopefully, they'll do better next year.
Davis does a good job of getting his teams up for big games. He doesn't do a good job of getting his teams up for *every* game. I think the thing with Knight was that he didn't necessarily get his teams to beat other teams that were better than his were. But he pretty much always got his teams to beat the ones that weren't as good as his.
Hugh, I loved Knight, but I have been a Davis supporter from day one. I originally said give him some time. He's going to have a good talent coming in (Wright, Strickland) and those two busted. Now, we have a lot of great talent and we're playing horribly.
I had high hopes for this season. IU has looked great at times, but often they looked disorganized and poorly coached. I think Mike Davis is a great recruiter, a good man and an inspirational person, but he does not deserve to be the coach at IU.
If you're degree is from the Indianapolis law school...you should follow IUPUI...they have won more games than any other Indiana Division I school since the 2002-2003 season...that's wildly impressive!
Gah! The law degree is from IU! We do not affiliate with that campus on which the Indianapolis campus of the law school sits. Okay, so yes, we are extraordinarily sensitive about that. I can't tell you how many people hve said to me "IUPUI has a law school?" when they hear I got my law degree in Indianapolis. (Speaking of Bob Knight, I think I'm in the last class to have Myles Brand's signature on my law diploma.) Besides, you should all be following Notre Dame anyway.
Yeah, the whole IUPUI thing is a sensitive issue for a lot of folks. I allowed my relatives down south to call it the IUPUI law school, but I often correct local people. IUPUI is the undergraduate institution. I mean, you wouldn't say someone goes to IUPUI medical school, would you?
Myles signed my diploma too, but I think I might have been a year or two ahead of you.
Anyway, Jason, IUPUI is playing really well (see, I am not ashamed to glom onto any successful Indiana team). They may be the great hoosier hope come March.
Yes, as an IU (South Bend) grad, Davis has to go...the program is not progressing, it is not necessarily regressing either, just kind of floundering. Getting to the Championship game a couple years back was somewhat of a fluke...won't happen again.
I went to bloomington for a year and finished up in South Bend...the classes in South Bend were beter than the classes in Bloomington.
I didn't think any of the degrees said IUPUI on them...it's either an IU degree or a Purdue degree...but don't be ashamed of schooling in Indianapolis! That's where REAL students go to get their study on...those Bloomington brats do nothing but drink and sleep. When I need an attorney for my first inditement, I'll be looking for an IU(--)Indianapolis degree, not an IU Bloomington diploma that was surely used to roll doobies! BE PROUD, MAN!
My M.A. from IUPUI says IU and it is in economics...liberal arts. Even us social scientists get to disregard the PUI part of our educational institution!
I have to say for IUPUI, they do much better at job placement than Bloomington. IUPUI creates contact between the business community. At Bloomington, you sit in a classroom and learn how to meet people...at IUPUI they introduce you!

Spend some money, and get Steve Alford back in Indiana where he belongs.
I don't think Steve Alford is the answer.
